Background: Preparing Leaders for an AI-Driven Future
Hyphen’s Leadership Conference, themed Facing the Future, gathered senior leaders to explore the organisation’s evolving brand promise – a human-centric client experience – and to equip teams with future-ready skills and mindsets. As part of the core agenda, the company ran three parallel workshops aimed at challenging thinking and inspiring change.
Kompela was invited to deliver one of the future-facing workshops: a focused, interactive session on the role of artificial intelligence in business, both its potential and its pitfalls.
Workshop Objectives
Kompela’s session was designed to demystify AI and help leaders at Hyphen:
- Understand AI’s practical applications within client services and operations.
- Recognise ethical and security risks associated with unvetted AI tools.
- Reflect on how AI aligns, or clashes, with Hyphen’s human-centred brand positioning.
- Begin forming internal governance principles around AI usage.
Engaged, Informed, Reflective:
Each Kompela session followed an interactive structure that balanced insight, discussion, and practical reflection:
- Opening Insights: A quick-fire presentation demystifying AI trends, outlining common workplace tools, and showing real-world examples of AI adoption.
- Opportunities & Use Cases: Exploration of how AI is already transforming tasks like transcription, customer support, and content generation. Leaders shared how AI is (or isn’t) showing up in their teams’ work.
- Risks & Blind Spots: The group examined ethical dilemmas and security vulnerabilities, especially around staff using AI tools without assessment. Nick highlighted how improper use can lead to brand, legal, and data risks.
- The Human Element: Through guided discussion, attendees reflected on Hyphen’s human-centric client experience promise. Can AI and humanity coexist in client work? Where must the line be drawn?
- Call to Action: Nick wrapped up with Kompela’s approach to responsible AI adoption, including recommending that any new tool undergo a Security Posture Assessment before rollout.
Participant Reflections: High Engagement and Thoughtful Debate
Each session generated vibrant discussion. Common themes emerged:
- A strong desire to harness AI for efficiency, but with caution.
- Concerns around data privacy, particularly when staff sign up for tools without IT oversight.
- Interest in balancing automation with human insight to retain client trust.
One participant noted:
“This session shifted the conversation from ‘Can we use AI?’ to ‘Should we—and how?’
That’s a big mindset leap.”

By the end of the conference, leaders had a clearer view of what responsible AI adoption could look like within Hyphen. The workshop’s messages were echoed during the closing roundtable sessions, particularly around:
